Frequently Asked Questions

PRODUCT INFORMATION

We ship subscribers 3 boxes a year, one for each spring, summer, and fall. Each box has all the supplies you need to keep your bees healthy and protected from the Varroa mite. Along with each box, we send a video that explains how to use the supplies in the box. This way there is no confusion about how to keep your bees healthy.

Mite Fight makes it easy. Along with your subscription box, we will send you a video that easily explains how to use all the products in the box. This way there is no confusion for the beekeeper.

We designed the Mite Fight regimen to allow beekeepers to only order what they need, when they need it. We are flexible with your subscription, so please notify us of any changes to the number of colonies in your apiary before we ship your box.

While Mite Fight does have good shelf-life, it’s always best to make sure your stock is fresh and delivered when you need it.This being said, it’s best to keep any surplus treatments in a cool, dry place out of direct sunlight.

Mite Fight utilizes some of the most advanced Varroa treatments that are currently available on the market. We also rotate the treatments we send beekeepers in order to reduce chemical resistance.  This being said, every treatment has different toxicity levels, with unique personal protection requirements.

We strongly recommend the use of disposable nitrile gloves when inspecting colonies, and applying treatments. In addition to basic beekeeping safety equipment (suits and veils) each treatment has unique PPE requirements that we vividly explain in the video that accompanies each treatment box. Safety goggle/glasses, a chemical/organic acid respirator, as well as nitrile gloves are three ingredients that are essential for a PPE(personal protective equipment) kit.

Varroa mites are parasites that feed off of the hemolymph and fat body tissues of the honeybee. This weakens their immune systems, leaving them vulnerable to diseases and viruses. One mite related virus is DWV or Deformed wing virus, which prevents honeybees from flying. When left untreated, Varroa mites will not only kill entire honeybee colonies, but expose nearby colonies to disease.

To add fuel to the smoker, many new beekeepers do not treat for mites, or do not treat properly. This can have deep cutting, and lasting effects on honeybees.

This is why we created Mite Fight – to solve this problem.

Mite Fight makes mite treatments much easier for novice and veteran beekeepers alike.

Using Mite Fight is more successful than most new beekeepers trying to fend off mites on their own. We supply the right treatment for the right season, and we explain how to apply it. There is no research or studying needed.
